Please review the general adoption agreement here and then, if you've decided to adopt, please feel free
to contact me and ask for any and all additional info on the animal(s) you wish to adopt. Please pay special attention to the risks involved in working with rescued animals, shipping and overall expectations.
Adoption Agreement for Amanda's Menagerie
Our best interest at Amanda's Menagerie is the best interest for the animals. As such, we expect the adopter to
be, to also hold the animal's best interest as their top priority. These animals have been through a lot, most of them
too much to deserve to be sent out to a new home, only to end up homeless again when the person taking this ultra cool or
cute little animal into their lives realizes they know nothing about it. Research any and every animal you wish to adopt,
purchase or take in to your home please. There is a plethora of information out there for the public eye and it only
ends up benefiting you and the animal(s).
Treat them just as you would your own human child and how you would expect to be treated yourself.
I ask that you provide me with adequate information on what type of housing, diet, lighting/heating (where applicable),
mental and physical stimulation (playtime and exercise) you intend on providing for the animal(s) you wish to adopt.
Granted, I don't wish to run anyone off making them feel like they should never have any of these animals, but you must remember...most
of what we take in here are exotics. Exotics are the "more experience needed" type animals. They generally require
more time, patience, money and research than a domesticated animal. They should be given the same consideration, love
and attention that we would offer our beloved domestic pets.
To boot, some of these animals are "special needs" animals, meaning they've either been physically or mentally
harmed by either bad breeding mills, neglectful husbandry skills from a previous owner, or abuse. Those particular animals
labeled as special needs will need people with experience in keeping that particular type of animal preferrably.
My goal is simple when it comes to adoptions: To find the animal a loving home that will lend
itself to be properly educated on the particular care and requirements of the animal at hand. The double side to the
coin, I will provide extensive help to the person adopting any time they ask. If I don't know
an answer right off the bat, I will find out immediately for you and ask for assistance from well respected collegues and
friends. I am here to put animals, people and education, under one roof together. This means that once you adopt
the animal(s) I will be here to provide "round the clock" advice, help and to answer any questions that may arise for the
entire natural life of the animal as long as it is in your possession.
Risks
As mentioned before, adopting a rescued animal involves risks. You cannot expect an animal that has had a bad past
to be the perfect idol of its species or necessarily to make the "perfect pet" for your family. Granted, there are some
of these rescues that will make great additions to your family, but you must understand and respect that there are a great
many reasons why some of these animals will never trust humans again.
You are not ordering from a breeder, you are taking a chance with an animal in giving it a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sometimes
many more times chance at a better life. I will give you as thorough of a background as I am given by the people surrendering
the animal or what I have from the situation it is rescued from, along with all that I can find out through my own experience
with the particular animal in determining its likes, dislikes, overall temperment, how it adjusted to a new life and what
to expect and be prepared for as much as possible.
Shipping
Please note that I will not ship a rescue unless it is going to one of a few places:
*another experienced rescuer
*someone with experience in taking in/adopting other rescues
*someone that fully understands the risks involved in shipping a rescue
This ONLY applies to animals which we find to the best of our ability to be as close to "great" health as possible.
Even then, the risk of stress from shipping can bring out an unknown past/underlying condition, and even an animal that appears
to be in great health, could very well stress out and arrive dead. It is best to have a local pick up, or if you are
close we could arrange to meet halfway even.
We can work out how to get the animal to you but shipping is too high of a risk for some of these rescues. If you
still would like to consider shipping, contact me for a full background on the animal you wish to adopt so we can decide whether
it can be shipped or not.
Please keep in mind that I can and will refuse to ship any animal where I feel it will be too high of a risk to ship.
My interest lies in making sure the animal is safe and sound and not thinking, "it could die but we'll ship anyway" theory.
If you would like to adopt any of the animals here, please contact me and I will send out an adoption application along
with the adoption agreement via email (or if you prefer, US Mail).
Always remember that if you have any questions, please contact me. I love to be of any assistance that I may. :)
I put a couple links below of some VERY helpful sites to do some digging in. Enjoy!
